sayonara, sayonara!

tomoe burnt down. all the laughter from the students were gone. the headmaster were sad and so did the children. totto-chan has just left on the train and in her heart , she kept remembering what the headmaster had said to her.

the tea party

the students of tomoe were having a tea-party for ryo-chan as he is going away for a war. the students were very excited as they din't have a tea party before. after that ryo-chan went away and the sky of japan were filled with bombs everyday.

a spy

after yasuaki-chan death, totto-chan began to wonder what she will want to do when she grow up and suddenly she thought of becoming a spy and she went to tell tai-chan but tai-chan said totto-chan is not suitiable yo be a spy as totto-chan is a chatterbox and this made totto-chan sad because what tai-chan has all siad is true.

rocky disappears

totto-chan came home and found rocky,her dog disappear she ask mother where rocky is but mother just said rocly has disappear but deep down totto-chan knew that rocky has died but totto-chan did not said a word and went back to her room . when totto-chan saw a tuff of rocky brown hair,she cried and cried, totto-chan has just lost two of her good friends; rocky and yasuaki-chan.

the promise

totto-chan told the headmaster that when she grows up she would like to teach at tomoe and they linked their little fingers together as what the japanese people would usally do.

daddy violin

war has come and there was little food for totto-chan family to eat. one day totto-chan daddy was invited to go for work by using his violin and he can change for food but daddy doesn't want and he begs totto-chan for her forgiveness and totto-chan forgive him. by then the war is about to come.

"yasuaki-chan`s dead"

the children were informed by their headmaster that yasuaki-chan has died and all the students were to go to his funeral and everyone was crying , totto-chan too. she has played with yasuaki-chan and he had lend totto-chan a book but now totto-chan will never have the chance to give it to him already.

chalk

the children at tomoe was given a chance to scribble anywhere in their classroom and the teacher will be playing notes and after their lesson end, the children will clean up their classroom so it will be clean again.

amateur drama

totto-chan school was having a rehersal and the teacher ask totto-chan to be a person called yoshitsune and totto-chan has to remained kneeling but the problem comes; totto-chan master has to beat totto-chan but totto-chan wants to beat him back so totto-chan end up playing a monk but she started distrubing others and so she couldn't have the monk too. and this was the last stage drama to play.

the english-speaking child

tomoe has come an english speaking child and his japan is not so good because he came from america. all the children has to teach him everything from the start. from then on, the america boy,miyazaki taught totto-chan and her friends english while totto-chan teach miyazaki japan and even though japan and america has become enemies,in totto-chan heart,miyazaki is stil her friend.

health bark

totto chan ask her friends in the class whether they can borrow her twenty sen so that she can buy the healthy bark in front of the station. the headmaster lent totto chan twenty sen and she thank him for the money. next morning, totto chan return the money to the headmaster, she ask him to bite the bark and want to find out that the headmaster is healthy a not.

visiting the wounded

totto-chan visited the wounded soldiers for the very first time.she went with many other school children.she represented the tomoe school.they all then started singing songs for the soldiers but totto-chan did not know any of them.but she started singing her meal song when a soldier asked why she was not singing.everyone laughed but she ignored them and continued singing.lastly the soldiers eyes was filled with tears and he kept patting totto-chan saying thank you.only he knew the reason why he was tearing.

the hair ribbon

totto-chan had a beautiful ribbon which was given to her by her aunty.she wore it to school and it seemed very attractive to the headmasters child.she also wanted a ribbon like that but the headmaster could not get it for her as it was imported.so he requested totto-chan not to wear it to school anymore.understanding his problem she stopped wearing it to school.instead she wore it for her favourite teddy bear at home.

shabby old school

it was a usual period in school where everyone would do things they like till the bell rang.while everyone was doing their own work,some students from the other school pass by the school and said that tomoe school was shabby in and out.totto-chan was so angry that she went and chased after the boys.they were too fast.she could not catch up.she then went back to school singing that her school was good in and out.on hearing this every student in tomoe joined in and made the headmaster proud.

his bride

totto-chan threw tai-chan out of the wrestling ring that day.she regreted threwing out the person she sloved as he was mad and told that she would never be his bride.but she still would do things she do for him usually as she loved him.

you're really a good girl

totto-chan was always told that she is really a good girl by her headmaster.he always says that to encourage totto-chan and to make her be more good than misceivious.listening to him she will always be encouraged not to misbehave.

field kitchen

there was a place where people can go and cook themself.it was called the thunder canyon.totto-chan was brought there and was to cook something to eat with the help of her fellow classmate.she had carefully learned ways to handle things in the kitchen when her mother was cooking.totto-chan had to cut the vegetables.she was a pretty fair cook herself.they all than sat down to eat their first meal prepared by themself.

the farming teacher

there was a farmer who came to totto-chan's school to teach them all about farming.totto-chan knew him as she would pass by his farm whenever she go for a walk.he taught them many things about growing a field and made the children realise the beauty of growing a field.

swan lake

totto-chan gave up her previous ambitions and wanted to become a balarina after watching a ballet 'swan lake'.she went for classes to learn how to dance but turn out that the class was teaching her to ance freely and notlike the dance in 'swan lake'.

her second year at tomoe

totto-chan has now grow into a mature child and looking back she found herself changing a lot.but sometimes totto-chan daddy and mummy will question about themself;did they did the right thing in sending totto-chan here? but they din't send totto-chan away,but someone from another grade was forced by his parents to go to another school as the parents thought that their son will be better in another school and so when the boy went away,the headmaster eyes were red and by now totto-chan had know a lot of new things already.

tails

the headmaster is mad at a teacher because the teacher during lesson ask takahashi whenther he got tails a not and he siad that he have no tails.takahashi know that he had stop growing and the headmaster thought up events for sport day so that takahashi can do well. so the teacher asked the headmaster what to do but the headmaster remained silent and it was the beginning of the year and totto-chan was about to go into her second year class at tomoe.

the library car

after the winter vacation, all of then return to school and discover something new and they greet their discovery and shout with joy.the headmaster said that it is the library and they can go to the library any time they want.the silence in the library was broken by some jumble of voices.they spent the whole day at the library and the headmaster think that he should bulid a bathroom near the library.

thank you

new year vacation had drew near and totto chan and her parents went skiing at the shiga highlands.her father taught her the word "thank you" ,those people who pass totto chan will always said something nice about her and now she will said thank you. the man had her sit down on his feet, he keep both the skis together. then he ski her to the gentlest and longest slope in shiga highlands and she said thank you. the man name was schneider, he was the world famous skier, he always used a pair of silver ski poles, in totto chan heart, he is a gentleman and the snow -landscape beyond him seem to go on forever.

pigtails

totto chan wear her hair longer at the side and tied it with a ribbon. shw got her mother to tied two little pigtails for her. she staggered and fell smack on the bottom when oe pulled her pigtails and she start crying.the headmaster have scold oe and told him to be nice and gentle to girls and that will be the first and last time that the headmaster scold him.

maSOW-chan

totto-chan meet a boy at the station and will always hear a woman calling out to the boy. and one day totto-chan meet this boy,he was standing in front of totto-chan and suddenly called totto-chan 'korean!' totto-chan was amazed and when she went home she ask mother what it means and mother suddenly broke into tears and after that she told totto-chan the meaning of korean and totto-chan understand but since then she din't see the boy again.

the forty-seven ronin

the vice-principal ask all the tomoe students to visted someone;someone who had died two and a half centuries and the vice-principal talked about the story of the famous forty-seven and after talking he asked every student to get a joss-stick and bowed to the forty-seven and every student were slient and serious when they bowed to forty-seven.

talking with your hands

totto-chan once found some people talking with their hands and it seems very interesting to her as she has never see anyone talking with their hands but totto-chan din't know that they are the handicapped people who can't talk.

very mysterious

at the train totto-chan found some money,it was a five-sen coin and she wanted to pick it up but she was scared that someone will say that money is his and so totto-chan decided not to take but the chance came; so totto-chan took it and when she got out of the train she put the money in a place but when she took rocky,her dog here to see the money it was gone,there was nothinh there.

the poet issa

the children always sing a song to their headmaster as his last name was the same as the famous poet and sometimes the headmaster would also conduct a lesson for the students to let them learn.

sports day

sports day at tomoe were fun as not only the children take part in the games,the adults had to take part too; for example when a child calls out to an adult name the person had to stand up and took hold of the child and together they ran to the finishing line and the person who win the most can have a cabbage to take home and let his mother cook.

we were only playing

totto-chan had a terrible accident.she and her dog were playing wolf.her dog forgot that they were only playing and he bit totto-chans ear.her ear was dangling and she coulden be more bothered than getting her dog being scolded from her parents.she told her parents to promise that nothing happens to the dog.she soon got treated from the doctor and when home.she saw rocky and he seemed to be sad for her.he licked her.they soon when to sleep and they were better friends than before.

and then...uh...

there was a new interest that has been added during luch time.after the song they sing they had to talk something before started eating.everyone agreed to the headmasters plan.everyone was brain storming on what to talk.it was a boys turn.he did not know what to talk.then the headmaster helped him out.he managed to say a few things but every sentence he say and then..uh...everyone was very excited for their turn.

look before you leap

totto chan leaped into a pile of plaster thinking that it was a pile of sand.her mother found her when it was evening.mother told her not to leap in to something without knowing what it is.she was referring to the time when totto-chan jumped into a hole of smelly water thinking it was a newspaper.totto-chan promised not to jump into any of that again.but she did not say she would not jump into other things.

takahashi

there was a new boy joining the school.his name was takahashi.he soon became totto-chans good friend as he was from osaka which is totto-chans dream place.they were in the same class and she sat beside him.

their worst clothes

the headmaster always suggest that children should wear their worst clothes to school as children may get their shirts dirty.but no one listens.totto-chan loves to go under fences and she gets her clothes torn.she got her mother favourite dress torn.she told a lie to cover up her fault but at the end her mother found out the truth and coulden stop admiring the headmaster who could understand the childrens character.

the only thing i want

it was the first time totto-chan went to a fair.she saw many new and strange things.but something caught her eyes.she saw little baby chicks and insisted in having one of it.their parents denied at first as they told her that the chicks would not last long.but as she was very determined in having one they had no choice but to buy it for her.on the fith day both the chicks died.she was so sad.it was her loss and seperation.

eurythmics

summer was over and now they had to all return to school.the headmaster introduced eurythmics to the children.it came from the word rhythm.he wanted the children to be more alive during lessons so he made all of them enjoy music so that the class would be interesting.

a trip to a hot spring

totto chan was going on a hot spring trip.it was a few days.they had to travel by trains and ships.they soon reached the place and started to swim.the hot spring water was warm and the sea was cooler.they had many things to do there.they met a man building his own boat.they all soon took pictures with him.they were really amazed by their first trip.it was full of memories.

the rehersal hall

totto-chan went into the rehersal hall with her father as her father was the concertmaster of an orchestra and over there she meet another teacher who was a friend of totto-chan's father his name is called mr josef rosenstock and he speaks in a funny way but totto-chan liked him and the rehersal hall.

the bravery test

the head master announced that there was going to be a bravery test.on that day of the test evryone was ready for the test.7 boys volunteered to be the ghost.the rest have to go to a grave yard to see who is the bravest.ended up all the children ran back being frightened to go in the grave yard.instead the ghost them self came back crying,annoyed and frustrated.they were the ones who were scared.they all had a good laugh.

the great adventure

after totto-chan camping it was the great adventure test,this is about her friend yasuaki-chan climbing up totto-chan tree but it proved hard for yasuaki-chan to do it as he had polio but in the end he done it and totto-chan and yasuaki-chan played together in the tree

summer vaction begins

totto chan was going to camp.her mother told totto chan that they would camp somewhere where they can see the stars.totto chan was frightened.they than went to school where they would be camping.after pitching their tents the headmaster told them his adventuring story.they listend and as soon as they finished,they all fell asleep.

the report card

totto-chan has recieved her first report card.she went and show it to her dog first.she did not know if she had a good mark.than she went to her mother to show it.

the swimming pool

totto-chan and the other friends were asked to have a swim at their school but the headmaster din't ask them to bring their swimsuit and were ask to swim naked so some of the handicapped students were able to swim without anyone looking at them.

a railroad car arrives

there was a railroad car arriving.the children were very excited but it seemed that the train would arrive very late at night.the headmaster suggested that everyone would go home and get their pajamas and blanket together with their parents permission.only 11 people were able to come.they soon fell asleep and a load voice came saying that the railroad car has arrived.everyone saw it and they were very happy.they would never be able to forget that day of happiness.

radio comedians

totto loves to listen to comedians since youg.but suddenly her mum asked her not to listen to it anymore.later that day a few of her father friends came to her house.her parents went out for a talk.than totto chan secretly listen to the comedians and started to laugh.but all were suprised how would a little girl understand a very difficult joke.

totto-chan's name

her real name was tetsuko.parents and relatives were sure that the baby was a boy.so they named him toru.but it ended up to be a girl.so everybody called her tetsuko as "ko" means a girl.

pull it all back

this chapter is talking about totto-chan digging the cesspool because she wanted to find her purse as she had dropped her purse inside the toilet bowl but in the end she coudn't find it as there was no sign of the purse

the school song

tomoe had never had any school song before and one day totto-chan realised that tomoe had never had a school song and so totto-chan ask the headmaster to write a school song for tomoe but it never works in the end so the whole school children also did not say anything

chew it well

In this chapter,before they eat their meals,they all had to sing a song which was surprising.normally they only said "itadakimasu".but the head master make their lunch more interesting.

school walks

the children were taken for walks one day and they saw so many things outside and learned a lot of stuffs and some even tell stories of one of the well they saw

sea food and land food

the sea food and land food means that everyone in tomoe must bring something that contains sea food and land food and if anyone doesn't have this two things the headmaster wife will cook for them

lessons at tomoe

the lessons at tomoe was interesting as the students could learn whatever they wish to learn.everyone will be learning something different and totto-chan also meet her new friend here in tomoe
